Do you use Google? Have you got a Google account?
It is required to have access to YouTube. Make sure you select a memorable username.
It is preferable to select a username that is easy for others to remember. You may even set up a Google account just for your YouTube channel.
After you’ve made an account, you’ll need to sign into YouTube. Before you can contribute any content, you must first create your first video. This will be covered in greater depth in the next paragraphs.
There are certain things you can think about right away.
It would be much better to pick a topic right away to discuss in your first video. This could be something you’re an expert on, or a topic that you’re very familiar with. You can also create a video about yourself, your channel, and your intentions.
This introduction video can be used to explain your audience why they should follow your channels. It could also serve as a way to share your interests and main topics with them.
Uploading to YouTube is easy.
Click the Create button in the upper right corner
Select your file now and begin uploading it or creating a live video.
Let’s go back to the basics and see what you can do to personalize your channel. Except uploading your content.
Here are some things you can do to give YouTube a fighting chance
You now know how to create a YouTube channel. But, you may be wondering if you can find a YouTube channel template. There are many websites that offer such templates. If you wish to personalize your channel, however, you will need to modify the appearance and add your own images.
There aren’t many things you can do in order to brand your channel. You can however change the channel artwork (the cover photo) or add a personal icon to your channel.
Click on “Customize Channel” to go to your account.
You can also add an icon and a channel art photo from this page. Both will be visible on all devices, mobiles included.
1. Channel Banner
Your channel banner is the first thing people see when they visit your YouTube Channel.
A channel banner is a piece or creative that appears at the top of your channel.
A YouTube channel banner should have dimensions of 2,560×1,440 pixels. However, the “safe zone” is 1,546×423 pixels. All content should remain within this safe area.
Your channel banner should tell viewers what type of videos to expect and when they can look them up.
You can also put other social media handles on the channel banner if YouTube isn’t your primary social network.
You don’t want to overwhelm people with too much information, so keep it simple.
2. Introduction Video
Although it may seem strange to create an introduction video or just set one, it can make a lasting impression.
A set introduction video will auto-play when you enter a channel. It is the largest of the videos on the screen.
Even better, the first part of your description for the video will be displayed on your channel’s home page. This is a great area to tell people more about you and your channel.
3. Optimized Playlists
Playlists are another thing that will be displayed on your homepage.
Playlists are groups of video that have been identified and named by the channel owner. These are great for grouping your content and answering all questions related to a particular topic or keyword.
Consider playlists and the titles/descriptions of them as pillar content.
Your playlist title should include the broad keyword that you want to rank for. Next, add a description with long-tail keywords or secondary keywords.
You should make sure that all videos added to this playlist are related to the bigger topic for which you want them to rank.
4. Keywords for Channels
YouTube is similar to Google. YouTube uses user-generated signals for determining who and when to show videos.
You can help YouTube understand what you are posting and to whom it should be delivered by defining your channel keywords.
This step is often skipped because it’s difficult to find.
How to set YouTube channel keywords
- Go to YouTube Studio.
- Choose Settings
- Toggle Channel from the menu
- Your keywords should be set.
There is no need to include a million keywords, but you can focus on five to ten keywords that best describe your channel.
5. Your custom URL
100 is the magic number.
You can get the desired custom URL for 100 subscribers.
One reason why the custom URL is so useful is that it makes it easier to link to your YouTube channel.
Instead of giving people a random string of letters and numbers, people will just have to type in youtube.com/(yourchannel).
Your custom URL can only be set up once you have 100 subscribers and have a 30-day-old channel.
After you have completed all these steps, you can set your URL in YouTube Studio by selecting Customization > Basic Info and entering the URL you wish to use.
6. Channel Description
YouTube uses other signals to determine the content of your channel description and to decide who it should be served.
It can also be used to inform your audience about the content and outcomes of your channel.
This area should be used for listing the topics that you will cover, and using keywords that your audience might use to search your content.
It is important that you consider the first 100-150 characters when writing your channel description.
These characters are often the ones you can rely on in order to grab the attention of the audience when searching for information.
7. Template for “Connect with me”
Last but not least, create a “connect With Me” template that you can include in your video descriptions.
This template should not be used to encourage people to connect with you. Instead, it should be used for encouraging people to interact with your company.
These interactions could include:
- Next video
- What content should you include on your website?
- These are links to the tools that you use.
- You may also offer online courses
- These are links to your social media channels.
- This link allows people to subscribe your channel.
- Brief description of who and what you are.
This section of the video description can be created into a template that you can reuse on all videos.
Get started building a successful YouTube channel
Although your YouTube channel might not have millions of views, it could be the social media platform that leads to organic leads for your business.
You shouldn’t need to spend more than one day on the listed optimizations.
Your YouTube channel content
It is more than just setting up your YouTube channel. Personalizing it is key to making it successful. A great channel icon and channel art can attract viewers. But content is what you need to succeed.
Professional, creative, and valuable content is essential.
But what about all the important stuff?
1. Your niche can have a profound impact on you personally
This is important as you will need to create something that people notice.
YouTube is a popular platform, but YouTube also offers a wide range of videos and channels that can cover any topic.
What can you do to help?
Remember that you’re not the only one. It doesn’t matter if you are an expert in a particular topic. There may be hundreds or even thousands of others who are at your level, some of whom are also on YouTube. You need to have a unique view on the niche you are interested in. Although it is difficult, it is possible.
2. Post frequently and consistently
To be successful with your channel, you need an audience. While it’s fine to get people to subscribe to your channel via email, it would be much better if they came to you more often.
You must post regularly and provide valuable content to keep them interested. Okay, you might not be able to post every day of your lives, but that’s okay.
Your style and schedule can be adapted by the audience. It’s best to be consistent. Every time you upload a new video, subscribers are notified. Your subscribers will remember your channel more often if they are notified more frequently.
PewDiePie is a popular YouTuber from the past few years. This makes it a great example. As of January 2018, he has more than 60,000,000 subscribers. He is successful because of more than just the content.
He posts videos almost every day, sometimes twice per day.
PewDiePie is the most successful YouTuber with $15 million in earned income in 2017. This was a result of consistency, professionalism and interesting topics.
3. Make sure that your content is of high quality
YouTube channels may not succeed without a personal viewpoint on a topic or consistency in posting. Remember that YouTube is a highly competitive platform with many other channels that offer similar content.
You must convince people to switch to your channel.
What more do you require?
Quality is also important. YouTube is full of millions upon millions of poorly-filmed videos that nobody really cares about. While some of these videos may be entertaining and even viral, they are just coincidences.
You must also deliver high-quality content in order to respect that audience.
